Excellent traditional Lucanian cuisine in Matera

Da Nonna Rosa restaurant, just a stone's throw away from the historic centre and Sassi di Matera, specialises in typical Lucanian cuisine. Its dishes are prepared exclusively with fresh and genuine ingredients following the traditional recipes that you would find in grandma's recipe book.
You can taste homemade dishes both in our restaurant, where we can host up to 60, as well as at home, thanks to our practical and quick takeaway service.

First courses

The restaurant menu offers a wide range of first courses typical of the Lucanian tradition. These include fresh pasta like cavatelli with black chickpeas, orecchiette with meatballs, and strascinate with cime di rapa, broad bean purée with chicory, fried breadcrumbs and 'Peperone Crusco di Senise' (peppers), as well as 'Trapiata Materana', a vegetable soup.

Second courses

Every dish that comes out of our kitchen is prepared with fresh, raw materials of excellent quality.
On our menu, you will find second courses, fried or baked, which will satisfy every palate. Sample eggplant parmesan, meatballs with tomato sauce, pork sausage, veal rolls with meat sauce, stewed cod with olives and sweet peppers, all of which are accompanied by side dishes made up of boiled vegetables, such as chard and spinach, or classic fries.

Side dishes

The vegetables used for our side dishes are cooked in various ways: boiled, grilled, in oil, or battered. We offer a wide choice to accompany your meal.

In-house desserts

Using only genuine products, our creative chefs are given free rein in oder to prepare our excellent in-house desserts, such as tiramisu, as well as our pies, garnished with homemade jam.
